MAI Profile

Myanmar Airways International (MAI) was founded in 1993 as an international airline operating out of Myanmar. Since our inception, we have been privileged to collaborate with a wide array of stakeholders, making air travel more accessible and contributing to the socio-economic growth of Myanmar. In 2019, MAI, along with our sister carrier Mingalar (formerly Air KBZ), entered a new chapter in strategic expansion and business realignment under the ownership of the 24 Hour Group of Companies, led by Chairman U Aung Aung Zaw.

With a fleet comprising six Airbus A320 family aircraft, two Embraer E190s, four ATR72-600s, and one Boeing 737 freighter, MAI operates from primary hubs in Yangon and Mandalay, serving 35 destinations across Myanmar and internationally, including routes to Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, China, India, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Cambodia, Vietnam, South Korea, Russia, and Laos. Our post-pandemic expansion strategy aims to further increase this network.

At MAI, passenger safety and comfort are our top priorities. We adhere strictly to Myanmar Civil Aviation Requirements (MCAR) and uphold the high standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). We take pride in maintaining a 100% accident-free flight record, earning us a 7-star safety rating from AirlineRatings.com, the only safety and product rating agency in the world.

We have partnered with over 40 airlines through codeshare and interline agreements, ensuring seamless international connectivity for our passengers. MAI is a member of the IATA Clearing House (ICH) and a partner in the MITA system. We are also Myanmar’s first airline to earn the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) certification.

MAI has been recognized in several prestigious forums, including the "Most Admired ASEAN Enterprise" award at the 2014 ASEAN Business Awards, hosted by the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC). During the pandemic, we received recognition from the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Overseas Citizens Protection Division for our dedication to maintaining operations. In 2022, MAI was named "Airline of the Year" at the 6th Incheon Airport Awards by Seoul-Incheon International Airport, one of Skytrax's top 10 airports globally. Most recently, MAI was recognized in the 2024 Best Companies to Work for in Myanmar (BCIM) Awards by JobNet.com.mm, honoring our commitment to employee satisfaction and engagement.
